ジェイムズ・ローゼンクイスト（1933-）: 画家。アメリカ、ノースダコタ州グランド・フォークス生まれ。高校生のときに短期奨学金を得て、ミネアポリス美術学校で学ぶ。1952-54年ミネソタ大学で学んだ後、55年奨学金を得てニューヨークのアート・スチューデンツ・リーグで学ぶ。この時期ジャスパー・ジョーンズやロバート・ラウシェンバーグらと出会う。彼の作品の特徴は、視覚的な物語を展開するにあたり、カンヴァス上でいくつものイメージを並置したり、重ね合わせたりすることにある。また広告で使われる視覚言語や大衆文化を芸術の領域に持ち込んだ。72年ホイットニー美術館で最初の回顧展。85年と2003-04年に世界各地で回顧展が開催された。70年代後半からフロリダ在住。

James ROSENQUIST（1933-）: Painter. Born in Grand Forks, North Dakota. While still in high school, won a short-term scholarship to study art at the Minneapolis School of Art. In 1952-54, Rosenquist studied at the University of Minnesota. In 1955, he received a scholarship to study at the Art Students League in New York where he met Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns, and their circle. A special characteristic of his work is his development of a visual story by combining, superimposing, and overlapping images on the canvas, and using the visual language of advertising to bring popular culture into the realm of art. His first retrospective exhibition was at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1972. Other retrospective exhibitions were in various places around the world in 1985 and in 2003-04. Rosenquist has resided in Florida since the latter half of the 1970s.
