トム・ウェッセルマン（1931-2004）: アメリカ、オハイオ州シンシナティの生まれ。シンシナティ・アート・アカデミーを経て、56-59年ニューヨークのクーパー・ユニオンで美術を学ぶ。50年代末に室内の裸婦をモティーフにしたコラージュを制作、61年から〈グレート・アメリカン・ヌード〉のシリーズに発展させ、その乾いたエロスを漂わせるカラフルなヌード像で、ポップ・アートを代表する作家となった。62年より実際の商品や食料品の写真をコラージュした〈静物〉シリーズを展開。63年からの〈浴槽〉シリーズでは便器やタオルなどを用いるようになり、作品が大型化していったが、60年代後半から再び平面作品に戻る。80年代にはレーザー光線で金属板に輪郭をくりぬくスティール・ドローイングを手がけた。

Tom WESSELMANN（1931-2004）: Born in Cincinnati, Ohio. After attending at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Wesselmann continued studies in art at Cooper Union in New York from 1956-59. In the late 1950s, made collages on the motif of nudes in interior spaces. His Great American Nude series (begun in 1961), with nude figures painted in intense colors and wafting dry eroticism, made him a major Pop artist. Wesselmann started his Still Life series in 1962, with photos of real food and consumer products. In 1963, he began the Bathtub series that was larger in scale and incorporated actual toilets and towels. However, by the latter half of the 1960s, he returned to using a flat plane surface. In the 1980s, he worked on steel drawings, using laser beams to cut out his drawings in metal.
