Mozambique Diary
February 15 - 21, 2004

On Operations:
From Zambezia one of the northern Mozambique provinces we moved up to another province "Cabo Delgado" we still not working but soon we going we just preparing the areas to start as You know the main problem is the weather (heavy rain) and roads access.
On Life in general:
My name is Celestino Benjamim, I'm 41 years old, single and have four children, 3 x girls and 1x boy, with the following names:

Ilda Celestino Benjamim
Ines Celestino Benjamim
Celestino Junior Benjamim
For me it's hard and difficult to tbake my kids to school and to support the family in all expenses because it is big and the life is getting more and more difficult.
I'm Christian and also supporter of Frelimo's party because I am a member of it and I cannot give up. I have my own house were I live with my family.
The relationship between us in my team is very good, we all live as a big family. And with HALO the relationship is very good as well.
The work for us is difficult at this weather of heavy rain but we're doing our best to keep tractor on good conditions for the coming weather, this job is making my life happy because I'm enjoying what I'm doing.
It is very hard to work in the afternoons, but unfortunately I cannot operate in morning because the manual team is working and I can only cut the vegetation when they are not working.
It is very difficult to work with machines as they get broken down sometimes because they are working too mach. There is a requirement of servicing on the machines.
Before I joined the HALO Trust I was working for TDM as a driver and TELEVISA as a technician of communication.
Like a man I have a dream of being a supervisor. According to my skill I know that I can do it. I would like to see HALO with more teams to employ more people so that we can finish the landmine problem soon.
