Mozambique Diary
November 9 - November 15, 2003

On operations:
We are working at Mussala's village an area of approximately 40.052m2 near Cuamba district with high soil contamination, this ground after clearance will benefit the populations and they can make farms and use the church for praying and more benefits. We are working at this task since 11th September 2003 about 35 days and we cleared 14293 m2 so far and no mines was destroyed, by information we had it was a old path used by Renamo's soldiers, was also a field of big fights between Frelimo and Renamo Troops no accident was reported but some mines was removed from the area in the process of making farms.
The life in general
My name is Quente Bacar, I'm 34 years old, born in Pemba, married and with two children, girl at grade eight and the boy at grade six.
I studied until grade seven. My primary school at Escola Unidade de Pemba and Secondary at Escola Secundaria de Pemba did not go further because of military service.
I join HALO as a Deminer in 2000.
I am a Muslim and a supporter of Frelimo's Party. I do drink, no smoke but like listening to the Mozambican music.
Before join to HALO I worked at SOLETRA, I left because of end of contract and we all was indemnizaded.
I fill my self good because I'm working and I've got my own house which I built with the money I end from SOLETRA my last job, I would like to give a better education to my child's and no problems with team at all.
On my demining experience I already found a three mines I felt not scared because I was familiar with mines at army.
If HALO ask me what I would like to be in future, my wish is to be as Operation Manager at HALO.
