On operations:
Namanda is a village in Ile District in Zambezia Province. An area of about 7.000 square meters is suspected mined. The minefield is behind three shops; Frelimo soldiers mined the area as a defensive measure from Renamo soldiers' sabotage of the shops. An accident has happened during the war when a boy stepped on an anti-personnel mine. It is a village with approximately 5.000 people, they want to re-open the shops and use the land for agriculture as well as the road that passes through the shops.
The life in general
My name is Joaquim Saraiva; I'm twenty-seven years old, single and have two children. Only one is going to school.
I started working for The HALO TRUST In 31 January 2001 and I never worked before that's why I can't say the difference between HALO and others company.
Talking about the work during this week we are doing our best and also, we are tying to forget the accident that happened to Mario Rito, according to my experience this was a big accident happened at HALO TRUST since I have started working in this company that's why we take long time talking about the accident, so this week we spent most of our time thinking and speaking about the it.
I can't see the difference between my family and my partners because we help each other and this made us became a big family and we also understanding the situation that in this place friendship is the best way to make our job going well.
Our supervisor teach us the way to do this job, he tell us about the responsibility we have in the campsite, how to deal with local people, etc. So we understand how important is the job we are doing, and we became proud of ourselves.
He also teach us to remember that our brothers lose they arm, and member during the war so we need to stop that when we are taking mines out, so this job is for all of us.
Tank you to understand my dialogue I wish I can talk another day about other things.
Joaquim Saraiva (Deminer)
