Mozambique Diary
June 15 - June 21, 2003

On operations:
Namaraquele is an area along the road Gurue -Lioma about 32 km from Gurue village. It is on the right hand side in an extension of about 1.2km; there are many cultivated areas and houses around. The mines were laid by FRELIMO soldiers during the civil war that ended in 1992 to protect the area from RENAMO attacks. No mine accident was reported in that area but local people found many mines that were then destroyed by HALO survey team (Zambezia Mobile).
The life in general
My name is Arcanjo Andre ; I'm 22 years old, single and have two children. With the following names:
- Luis Arcanjo
- Sheila Arcanjo
My kids are still young to go to school and my wife and I we will afford to take all of children to school when it is possible.
I´m Christian and also supporter of the main Frelimo movement because I am a member of it and I cannot give up. The relationship between us in my team is very good, we all live like a big family. And with HALO the relationship is very good as well.
The work was successful during this week like on the last week, this made me happy because I did what I was supposed to do. We just feeling so much about the accident happened with Mario Rito for Team one and this made us Not really good because he is one of us and we don´t like when things like that happen so is part of our job we need to recogniser that like a normally to our position.
We also working in the afternoons because in the morning the manual team is working and it is very hard to work in the afternoons, I can only cut the vegetation when they are not working.
Before I joined the HALO trust I was working for Word Vision NGO In road project like a driver.
All what I have dream is to be recognized like a real man who can afford for lot of things.
