On operations:
The team 8 is still working in Montepuez district, and the task name is Nairoto in the north of Mozambique where some of the TBS teams are situated. The area that the team was preparing for the dogs intervention as finished it is only waiting for the dogs to go. During of the week a couple of ladies got into the mine field looking for firewood fortunately they were told to go back before the worse happens.
We hope to finish this task soon and deliver it to the local authorities so local people can start working the land for agriculture and other purpose.
The life in general
My name is Jacinto Humberto, I’m 26 years old, married, father of two daughters, only my older daughter goes to school, I was born in Pemba and there I did my primary and secondary school. Before I joined HALO I was unemployed, life was not easy for me and for my family.
I have been working for the HALO Trust since July 2001, I was trained as a deminer in Nampula Province, during the training I learned different methods of demining such as: detector, excavation and combined methods. On detector method, I learned how to calibrate the 420Si and 420H, and the 420GC adjustment.
When I first found a mine a was very scared as I was told before I joined HALO Trust that mines are very dangerous, I behaved as I was taught in the demining course everything went well, and nowadays I become nervous when I don’t find a mine. The salary I good and I hope to be working for HALO for long time in order to carry out my dreams, one of my dream is to take my license driver and one day in the future buy a car.
