On operations:
Team 12 is still working in Montepuez district, the task’s called Montepuez River Bridge; it is situated in northern province of Cabo Delgado. That is a useful bridge that allows access between Montepuez district to Nairoto Village and other districts. Due to mines local people can’t use the land close to the bridge for agriculture or for fetching water. Frelimo soldiers laid the mines in order to prevent sabotage from the rebels.
We came back from leave on the beginning of this week. During our clearing operations we found and destroyed 03 anti-group mines type POMZ-2, and we cleared an area of 2.700m2. We once stopped working because of rain but it did not take long.
The life in general
My name is Virgilio Mario, I am 26 years old and I was born in Pemba. I am single but I have one child who is still leaving with his mother because I am still preparing the conditions for us to leave together. Last year I did my grade 12 at Pemba Secondary School as external student. I stopped studying because I had no conditions to support my studies. I prepared myself for the external exam in the camp after working fortunately I did the 12o class exam and passed. I’m saving some money for one day carry on my studies at the university. I had never worked before and The HALO Trust was my first employer, I have been working for HALO Trust for three years now and I expect to work for very long time.
I like working for HALO very much because I can support some of my necessities. I have now constructed my house with the local material. The work was good and I like this task because after work I use to go fishing and locals are very friendly they help us when we need their help in anything, the relationship with my colleagues is fine.
