Mozambique Diary
July 28 - August 3, 2002

On operations:
At the moment our team is still working in Montepuez district, and the task name is Nairoto, that is a province in the north of Mozambique where the TBS teams are situated. The team is preparing an area next to the minefield under clearance at the moment, for the clearance of this new minefield we’ll in the future use dog’s team (MDD).
During the week we did not have any incident, the clearance is going as desired. The only thing that worries us at the moment are the monkeys, they use to remove the bamboo sticks that we use to mark the minefield.
The life in general
My name is Eduardo Ernesto, I was born in Cabo Delgado Province, I’m married to Maria Francisco and we have six children, they all go to school except the last born, we are all Christians but I only go to the church when I’m free from work, my wife and children go every Sundays.
We live in Pemba, capital of Cabo Delgado Province our house is not very big but we all fit in there, I hope to build a big house one day in the future.
I had been working in Germany (Ex-RDA) for ten years, I used to work in an agriculture project in the field out there, then I came to Mozambique and I got a Job in Mozambique Railway company (CFM), I was a train operator.
I did not have a lot of trouble to get familiar with The HALO Trust because in the companies I worked before HALO we worked as a team. The money I earn now is more than I used to receive in the CFM, so I would like to work for The HALO Trust for more twenty years time, my dream is to buy my own 110 tdi LAND ROVER like the one I’m driving in the HALO.
