On operations:

Team 11 is one of three TBS teams and it is at moment at the end of its first campaign and the only complain is related to the general illnesses such us malaria and some times diarrhoeas due to several reasons, however this matter is under control through our paramedics. In spite of thickness of the vegetation that often makes the clearance slow, will be sorted within 2 months since we are approaching the dry season.

The minefield has been confirmed as mined, some PMN, Russian antipersonnel mines have been efficiently found and destroyed so far which is a good indicative of the team performance. For the time being the team is on leave just for a week time. The only additional information regarding this task is that there are still being found mines showing very good progresses.

The life in general

I’m Horacio Raul a member of team 11, 22 years old, married and a father of two children, and I’m a catholic, I joined HALO in October 2001, I’m living in Nampula. Before getting employed by The HALO Trust I was studying. Whenever I turn up from the field (after the campaign), my family fills very happy with lot of wishes and longings, the environment changes its aspect because by the arrival of the husband, a reason of a greatest gladness (all sorted for the time being).

In future I intend to furnish my home, to help my brothers in clothing and school equipment, to keep helping my parents since they are so old at moment. It is lamentable that I have not opportunity to accomplish with 2002 world cup since I’m very far from the press.

I’m not worried with isolation, since I’m on the ground taking mines out which is my job and returning the land to the local community.

At the weekends I spent most of my time cleaning my de-mining tools and rejoice with my colleagues.

“daily bread” to feed my kids and myself.
