On operations:

Team 12 has recently moved to a new task in Montepuez district, the task’s called Montepuez River Bridge, it is situated in northern province of Cabo Delgado. That is a useful bridge that allows access between Montepuez district to Nairoto Village and other districts. Due the mines local people can’t use the land close to the bridge for agriculture or for fetching water.

At the moment the team are setting up the base line in the minefield. The obstacle we are facing at the moment is that the grass is very thick at the edge of the rivers, it is a common characteristic in our river’s edge, the other problem might be the elephants, local people say that the elephants usually use that areas searching for food and water.

The life in general

My name is Chabane Issufo Carimo, I’m 37 years old, married father of three children, my wife and children live in Nampula. I joined HALO in 1997 before I was working for ministry of education as teacher, I left ministry of education because the working environment was not good and I was based in a district affected by war. The rebels usually came to our district to burn houses, schools, steal goods etc.

When I joined HALO Trust I refused a post of Team Supervisor I was afraid of the post and everything there looked so complicated to me, I accepted the post of deminer after some time I was promoted as assistant supervisor, that’s the post I am now. I’m very happy with this post but if I’m proposed to be a Team Supervisor I won’t refuse this time because I now know what a supervisor’s job. I’m very happy with my job my life and my families life have change significantly since I joined HALO Trust. The only problem is that I have to stay away from them for along period.
