On Operations:
My team is working very well; we have started on a new minefield in Nangade District in the north of Cabo Delgado. The minefield is 29 km from Nangade District where we get some food and it takes us 60min over. This minefield contains M969 mines. Is a very good experience work for Halo because we work in different places in province and out of province. We don’t mind work out of Cabo Delgado our in Cabo Delgado because The HALO Trust give to us good condition in campsite.
So far we have located and destroyed 57 x M969 mines and cleared an area of 1.658SqM, I am concentrating on assist Mr Januario (team supervisor) and resolve same error from deminers. We have 2 obstacles, vegetation and weather is getting very hot now, which makes our work harder and more uncomfortable. However the rains will start soon which means our work periods will be disrupted then in January we will have heavy rains which will make some roads very difficult and dangerous to travel and other roads impassable, as a result we may have to suspend our operations here and move to another task.
On Life in general:
I am 32 years old and have worked for HALO since 1999 starting as deminer and I have worked my way up to Team Ass. Supervisor. It is hard some times being away from my family; I have been married for 6 years and have 3 suns. If I had not got a job with HALO I would still be a businessman in market. But now I have a good wage to pay school and others costs in house.
