Cambodia Diary 19 February - 6 March, 2004
|
Hello, ladies and gentlemen! My name is Mr. Meas Vandy and I am 39 years of age. My homeland is at Ampil Village, Ampil Commune, Bantaey Ampil district, Otdar Meanchey province, Cambodia. I am the eldest of two children. I am a married man with two sons and a daughter.
Nowadays I and my families are very satisfied with our lives as well as my work with the HALO trust. This mineclearance programme plays a very significant role to bring the changes into my family as well as my fellow Cambodian lives. To me, HALO has offered a means to survive and to Cambodian residents in mined areas, HALO is not only helpful in the way that it saves lives from danger of mines but also helps improve their living condition through the return of safe land to settle, to do farming and so on.
I joined HALO on September 1, 2000. Up to now, it has been over three years already that I have worked for the HALO Trust. My living- standard has improved gradually comparing to the period I was not yet employed. In despite of having such a good job, the rest of my family members still keep up with farming and I could help during my stand- down.
Within this ending cycle week, I work at Chamkar Ko pond 1 minefield. Regardless of the very hot weather I have not been bored or lost my attention with HALO’s SOP. At all time, I keep my thought alert with safety rules for the sake of myself and my family, for they are at home longing for my return. Thus, I will not let them down with my carelessness. I have found 2 anti-personnel mines “PMN” in this week. This means that two lives are saved. The quantity may appear minor, but if we think about saving two lives, it is great and I am so glad with this thought.
It takes only a month to go for the Cambodian to celebrate our new year when all the relatives gather together happily. Then, I will meet and celebrate a memorable moment with the rest of my family. In this ending I would like to express my thankfulness to the HALO Trust as well as our generous donors like AAR\TBS for your tirelessly continual support and bless you all the best.
Thanks,
Meas Vandy
