In this week, The sun doesn’t rise up early morning just bright and the cloud has flowed over the sky from the morning till noon. Partly the minefield located closely to the mountain is scattering of leaves and sprinkling from the weather. All deminer like his body-amour and visor very much to keep the body warm, the same as villagers who are living closely to the minefield, they collected dry wood and rubbish to burn for warming in the early morning, before they left homes to their farms.
Demining operation team has deployed to all sites as usual as bush cutters. The clearance statistic, there are 25 sqm per lane/day in this week.
Section Commander No 23 named Chhean Chheang Ins: 160 single, his motherland is in Pursat Province west-northern of Phnom Penh Capital. He is the oldest son of his family among 4 sisters and brothers. In 1985 the VN and SOC forces did around of conscription to all Cambodian families for minelaying along Thai-Cambodia border to against with KR, meanwhile in each family must had one member to joint this work-plan (called K-5). But if not, they faced with accusing as enemy and then, going to jail if no money. Meantime, Chhean Cheang had Volunteer to joint SOC unit and based at Pursat Provincial town to prevent his family from K-5 work-plan. Cheang said, during wartime he laid about 70 mines in front of his military base, where his force had been occupied around Pursat Province.
In 1992 Chheang was selected to train as deminer with UNAMIC and then,
on time to joint with HALO TRUST in Pursat Province.
From 1992 to 1995 Cheang was a good deminer he used to find approximately more than 50 mines and his first clearance minefield was in Svay Donn Keo Village northern of Pursat Provincial town. In I996, Chheang Promoted to be Deputy section Commander and in 1998 Cheang has promoted to be Section Commander till now. This 28 years old HALO section Commander has already engaged the daughter of District Deputy Chief of Anlong Veng
( which is the HALO maid in ALV ) and will be married in January 2002.
We are hopefully to joint a happiness wedding soon.
