Cambodia Diary October 20, 2001
|
In this week, the storm just started for few days in the afternoon and rainfall at night time, it mean that the wet season nearly gone. However, it doesn’t affected to our demining operation, we still carried out on working as normal. But for bush cutter, we didn’t deploy to this minefield due to the soil is to wet and easy to get stuck.
The wind sweep slightly from the north, it mean that, the winter season just start a little bit and the weather become a little bit cold, all deminers feel comfortable at night time but very hot in day time. Deminers in Svay Chek K5 Road cleared an average 40 sqm/lane/day.
A deminer named Orm Yen, 38 years old, he joined HALO since 1996 so far he found 9 mines and 7 Uxos include one in this week, he is from Samrong village, Samrong commune, Sotnikum district, Seim Reap province. Previous job he was a farmer with four children, his wife is a teacher in Samrong primary school and his children have attended the school, after class his wife take time to rearing the pig and chicken for sell. Since he has joining with HALO, he had a house, one motorbike and saving some money for his family “Ourm Yen said”. In this stand down he planed with his wife to see the ceremony of water festival which will be held in Siem Reap ( Ang kor Wat temple ). Oh !! happiness family.
