Angola Diary 26th -2nd November 2003
|
I was born on 20th August 1979 in Huila Province in the southern part of Angola. Both my mother and father are still alive. I have a grade 6 primary school education . Our exact home area is Calukembe, an area which has also suffered the brunt of the civil war. We had to abandon our home and most property due to the conflict and went to seek refuge in Lubango city. We had been refugees living in our own country. My father's name is Jose Joaquim and my mother's is Ana Domingas.I am married with three children.
I joined MAG on the 3rd of March 1999.This is my first employment in life. My many thanks to all the well wishers who have been keeping this organization going in terms of funding. It is the basis of my survival. My job in MAG makes me feel proud because I help people by removing mines which are a great threat on the livelihood of many Angolans. One interesting and amazing thing is MAG's capability to penetrate deep in the rural areas. It opens up accesses to water sources, abandoned infrastructure and clears mines in such places and other areas intended for cultivation by the local communities. In Cunene there is no other NGO as famous as MAG. Our activities are instrumental to those of other NGOs for safety purpose. There fore, in my opinion MAG needs a lot of financial support to carry its work forward. Every body would like this organization to expand its activities to other provinces affected by mines like Kuando Kubango. It can only realize such dreams if given support. This will also help create more employment for the youth.
Lastly I would like to inform the Japanese Television Broadcasting System that Kunene has still lots and lots of mines, and so deserves publicity to the out side world to trade its the necessity for financial support.
Yours,
Antonio Jose.
