Angola Diary November 12, 2001
|
Estevo Jimy Toca, works on the task H034 which is a manual demining team, located at Santo Antonio Bairro in between the Huambo prison and a military camp.
Tocas works from 7:00 to13:30, which makes a day of 6.5 hours. Every 30 minutes of work he gets 10 minutes break.
On 5th November 2001, Tocas moved to the minefield and for this operation Tocas used, as usual, the demining method of excavation with the following demining tools:one visor, one jacket, one front line stick, one stick, one probe, one trowel, one shears and one hoe and besides he worked with several marking sticks to back up the clearance and complete the required equipment.
When it was 11:00 Tocas had cleared 2 m2 and found one AP blast mine, Type 72A.
Toca has positively finished his work at about 13:30 clearing 2.5 m2 and he is motivated to continue giving his contribution for the total clearance of the field.
Clearance of this task is high priority not only because of its proximity to the prison and the military position, but also because it is no more than 2 metres from a school house used by both prisoners and children every day. A large number of people also move around this general area to access their farmland.
