Georgia Diary February 21, 2003

In order not to think too much about the danger of mines, we look on demining as a kind of competition. For example, last week was very "productive" when the LLD (Large Loop Detector) Team found four anti-tank mines in one day along the village road. You don't want to think about how many casualties there would have been if these mines had exploded. There are a lot of cases like that. So even if it sounds terrible, we've got used to it.
During break times, the Crusher Team deminers derisively speak about how many mines have been found by the LLD Team and how scant the soil is today as a result.
But honestly it is great that day by day we have less "productive" fields.
