Episode 6

Jin Minakata (Takao Osawa) is at the western medical school, Seitokukan, in Nagasaki giving a lecture about penicillin. But he hasn’t come to Nagasaki just to promote the use of penicillin. He has made the decision to warn Ryoma Sakamoto (Masaaki Uchino) of a plot to assassinate him.

Unable to meet Ryoma, Jin is just about to give up when to his delight, Ryoma suddenly appears. But this is not the same Ryoma that Jin has come to know, for he had recently acquired weapons from the Scottish merchant, Thomas Blake Glover (Will Geluk), and had made a profit selling the arms to the Choshu clan for their fight with the Tokugawa government. Not sure what to think, Jin accompanies Ryoma to Choshu, only to be shocked at the sight of a battlefield where mass numbers of government troops have been killed by the weapons Ryoma had sold. Yet Ryoma regards the scene coolly, seemingly undisturbed. And little by little, a darkness begins to engulf him.

Can Jin save Ryoma from himself and set him back on a righteous path?
