All-Star Gala Competition |
|
TBS is not only involved in digital broadcasting and Internet operations, but is also working hard to develop content combining broadcasting with mobile phones.
In the popular spring-and-autumn live quiz show All-Star Gala Competition, which features as many as 200 celebrities, viewers participate in the quiz in real-time using their mobile phones. This year, viewers could participate in this way for the seventh time. Due to restrictions on the number of participants inherent in the live-broadcast format, preliminary selections are made via TBS-mobile websites operated by three major mobile phone providers. To date, a total of 1 million viewers have been through these preliminary selections. The 30,000 who passed and participated in the program spent 5½ hours in the studio with the stars, and competed to be the quickest in giving the right answer by their mobile phones. |

Entry for the live quiz show |

| Younger viewers have done particularly well on this show. The top prize of 500,000 yen went to a 17-year-old high-school girl on the first episode and to another high-school student on the third. |

Tale of Terror |
|
Every week, TBS transmits the short ghost-story program Tale of Terror, a digital satellite and terrestrial broadcast, for downloading to mobile phones.
|
| For 3G mobile phones able to handle content with large data volumes, we transmit programs of 5-6 minutes’ duration. They are designed to offer new storylines every week that can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere. The number of mobile phones capable of receiving such downloads is expected to rise to several million units in 2005. In the meantime, TBS plans to continue aggressively developing program content for mobile phones. |
