Masahiro Nakai from popular band SMAP stars as Ataru in this mystery / human drama. Ataru, who suffers from "savant syndrome," has the power to discover, observe, see through, and deduct microscopic evidence of unsolved cases. Why does he always go to the criminal sites? What explains his strange behavior? His sad past will be revealed as the story unfolds.

An explosion occurs at a chemical factory, leaving one person dead. The investigation team concludes that it is merely an accident, but Maiko Ebina (Chiaki Kuriyama) has her doubts. When she goes to the site again, she finds a man who introduces himself as "Chokozai" (Masahiro Nakai). After blurting out a series of words that Maiko cannot understand, he suddenly falls asleep. Maiko decides to look up the meaning of these words. She is taken aback when she discovers that when put together, these words provide the key to solving the case.

This drama takes a whole new approach by making stars act under their real name and collaborating with other TBS television shows. Ryo Nishikido acts as a popular idol and member of Kanjani ∞ (or as himself) who secretly marries a woman with three children. This comedic drama portrays the reality of show business and the importance of familial bond. Ryo has come to his girlfriend Haruka's house to ask her mother (Atsuko Takahata) and children for her hand. Her eldest daughter refuses flat out saying that she doen't want an idol as her father. To make things worse, Kanjani ∞'s manager finds out about the marriage and tells him to either get divorced within three months or end his career in show business.

Haru and Kanako have been married for four years. They don't have any children, but they both enjoy their job and are happy together. However their lives are suddenly disrupted when Kanako faints from subarachnoid hemorrhage. After the operation, it becomes evident that she has lost some of her memory...her memory of the five years with her husband. She decides to return home to her parents. Her younger brother takes care of her. Meanwhile, Haru's colleague notices that there is something troubling him.

Life without his wife makes Haru realize how much his wife means to him and vows to propose to her once again...

In this fifth series, Azumi Hancho is transferred to the special investigation team at the Metropolitan Police. Azumi is used to the teamwork at Jinnan station, but things seem rather different here at the Metropolitan Police. Some people are even hostile to him. How is Azumi going to overcome this adversity and succeed in solving his cases? He is appointed head of the Special Investigation Team 1. Under his supervision are three young detectives, all of whom used to be an "outlaw" at their respective departments. There is a secret behind the formation of this team, but only Azumi's boss Kawaguchi and the senior management know.
A newscaster, Nahoko Nishimori, receives a death-threat. Azumi's team take on the case and eventually finds out that it is linked to a case that his colleague was on 10 years ago...
