Miss Cornflakes
Mel Ramos was born in California and is a representative West Coast Pop artist. He painted what looked like "Playboy" magazine pin-up girls, but these were represented along with mass consumption products such as tobacco or chocolate. Commercial advertisements often use the technique of juxtaposing products and attractive women, but in the case of Ramos' paintings, when Lucky Strike, Snickers, or Coca Cola are paired with women, the women may be seen as objects of consumption, or the products may become objects of desire. In the background of Miss Cornflakes is the Kellogg's logo, reminding us of the typical American breakfast cereal. The glamorous smiling woman rising from the half peeled cornhusk turns to smile at us and casts a seductive gaze.
